New Jersey state workers rally against cutbacks |

TRENTON, New Jersey—More than 10,000 public workers rallied here December 11 to oppose legislative proposals to cut their pensions and health benefits. Unionists organized by the Communications Workers of America, the New Jersey Teachers Association, and others chanted, “We aren’t the problem,” and held up foam hands demanding, “Back off!” At least six school districts cancelled classes that day, as so many teachers had joined the protest. —CAROLE LESNICK
