Seven Million Strike In Italy
Seven million industrial and transportation workers went
on strike December 13 in all major cities in Italy. Above,
workers at Fiat Mirafiori marched in San Carlo Square in
Turin during a solidarity demonstration with mechanical and
metalworkers demanding a wage increase. It was the first
national strike called by the major union federations since
president Romano Prodi took office last spring. In the
major cities all public transportation was at a standstill.
