Crown oilworkers continue fight
Some of the 200 refinery workers who continue their
weekly picket at Crown Central Petroleum outside of Houston.
Two years ago Crown locked out 252 workers belonging to the
Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers union Local 4-227, when
negotiations deadlocked over management's insistence on
gutting seniority and replacing union workers with temporary
contract labor. Last January Crown filed a civil lawsuit
against 14 operators, a union official, and the local union,
charging them with more than 400 acts of sabotage and
conspiracy to commit sabotage. The unionists have initiated
open meetings to plan a public defense of these workers and
their union.
