Students in Santa Cruz, California, march to defend bilingual education
University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) students
march to defend bilingual education June 1. More than 200
turned out for the protest that called for a no vote on
Proposition 227. The measure, which cuts state funding for
bilingual instruction, was approved June 2. Members of the
United Farm Workers and Service Employees International
Union joined the march. More than 60 UCSC students took part
in a June 3 meeting on campus to map further actions.
