Members of United Mineworkers of America Local 1984 in
Rangely, Colorado, settled a more than two-month strike
against Blue Mountain Energy at their Deserado mine July 4.
In a telephone interview Carol Amy, the union local's
recording secretary, reported that the 74-14 vote put in
place a five-year contract with a raise in wages of $1.85
over that period. The strikers were able to cut down
mandatory overtime hours to 250 per year and stave off all
cut-backs on health care.
