Greece: 10,000 March Against Education Cuts
"We'll occupy 'til the year 2,000!" chanted droves of high
school and university students in Athens, Greece, January 28
during a 10,000-strong action to demand the repeal of a law
restricting access to post-secondary education. Students, who
have occupied hundreds of schools since November, were joined
by teachers and construction workers. The General
Confederation of Greek Workers called a four-hour work
stoppage in support of the students. Teachers went on a 48-
hour strike. Cops massed in nearly every side street, but no
major incident was reported.
