Pro-choice rallies mark Roe v. Wade anniversary

WASHINGTON, D.C.Defenders of womens right to choose abortion rally January 22 in the U.S. capital. About 150 people, mostly young women, joined the candlelight vigil to mark the 31st anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that decriminalized abortion. They chanted, For 30 years its been this way, Roe v. Wade is here to stay, drowning out chants of anti-abortion protesters. Similar rallies were organized in Cleveland, San Francisco, and other U.S. cities. Thousands of opponents of womens right to choose had gathered earlier in Washington to call for reversing this historic gain for working people. U.S. president George Bush described the anti-abortion crusade as a noble cause. Janice Lynn
