CHICAGOBetsy Farley (standing with microphone), Socialist Workers candidate for U.S. Congress in the 5th District, addresses March 7 workers assembly held here as part of an immigrant rights conference. Farley is a meat packer and member of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1546.
A write-in candidate in a special election on April 7, Farley is running against Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley, a Democrat; Republican Rosanna Pulido, the founder of the anti-immigrant Illinois Minutemen Project; and Green Party candidate Matt Reichel. Farley recently attended an event in support of a womans right to choose abortion held at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she got a warm response when she spoke from the audience. She has also joined protests in Chicago and Washington, D.C., against the Israeli invasion of Gaza. ALYSON KENNEDY |
