Iran ‘pro-democracy forces’
The otherwise informative article “Washington pushes for more international sanctions against Iran” by Cindy Jaquith in the March 1 issue uses the phrase “pro-democracy forces” in citing demonstrations against the Iranian regime in various cities. I think it would be better to say “forces fighting for democratic rights” or something similar.

[Editor’s reply—We agree the term “pro-democracy forces” is open to misinterpretation. Elsewhere in the March 1 article it referred to “domestic opponents who are competing to run the capitalist government and who call for lifting restrictions on democratic rights.” This is a more accurate description of bourgeois politicians such as Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who play a prominent role in a heterogeneous opposition movement that includes young people and others who seek to advance the fight for democratic rights more broadly.]

Donation to Prisoners’ Fund
A Haitian coworker who has been a subscriber gave me $20 yesterday for the Militant Prisoners’ Fund. Last week he got the new book Malcolm X, Black Liberation, and the Road to Workers Power and a subscription renewal.

Working class’s true position
I really enjoyed the subscription that was sent to me through the Militant Prisoners’ Fund. It is my only source of news that reflects the reality of the working class’s true position under capitalism. However, I am an indigent prisoner. Would you please send me another subscription?
