MONTGOMERY, Alabama—Some 500 people marched here July 30 for immigrant rights. In June the state legislature passed antiworker bill HB 56, which builds on anti-immigrant federal laws. Among its statutes, it requires public schools to check students’ immigration status and all businesses in the state to use the federal government’s E-Verify program when hiring. —AMANCIA ALVARADO Front page (for this issue) | Home | Text-version home |
