NEW YORK — Dan Fein, Socialist Workers Party candidate for mayor, was one of the speakers at a May 29 rally of 50 here to demand freedom for Oscar López Rivera, sponsored by the ProLibertad Freedom campaign. “The Socialist Workers campaign calls for independence for Puerto Rico and freedom for Oscar López Rivera,” Fein, a factory worker, said. “Some ask how can Puerto Rico survive without the U.S.? I answer, ‘Look to Cuba. Workers and farmers took political power there and for more than five decades have used their power to advance the interests of the toiling majority.’” Fein encouraged participants to also back the fight to free the Cuban Five.
