Stalinist lies about Iran’s nuclear weapon program

Stalinist and other “left” groups in the U.S. and elsewhere that support the reactionary regime in Iran and its “axis of resistance” went into action in June to denounce Israel’s defensive strikes aimed at destroying Tehran’s capacity to build nuclear weapons and associated missile delivery systems.

Tehran’s capitalist rulers promote the transparent fiction that its nuclear program is solely for generating electricity. But Tehran built huge facilities deep underground where it enriched hundreds of pounds of uranium to 60%, for which there is simply no civilian use. Its only use is in developing nuclear weapons. Even a few such weapons could annihilate the vast majority of Israel’s 7 million Jews, as well as 2 million Arabs, and others there.

Stalin and Stalinist parties worldwide have always been well-known for use of the “big lie,” smears to cover up the truth — which they are fully aware of — and to advance their real aims.

One of these outfits today, the Workers World Party, took this argument to the hoop. “Iran has been developing nuclear energy capabilities for electricity generation, medical isotopes and research,” the group said June 14. “The United Nations recognizes the inalienable right of all nations to develop and use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.”

But the Iranian rulers don’t beat around the bush. In May, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Israel “is a lethal, dangerous, cancerous tumor [that] should certainly be eradicated, and it will be.” That’s what their nuclear program is aimed at.

A June 16 statement by the International Department of the Communist Party USA called the Israeli government “fascist” and calls its defensive strikes at Iran’s nuclear facilities a “reckless act of aggression.” The CP just flat out lied in a June 22 article, insisting “Iran was not building a nuclear weapon.”

The Party for Socialism and Liberation repeated the line June 12, claiming, “Israel has launched a series of brutal airstrikes on residential neighborhoods in Tehran and key civilian infrastructure, a nuclear enrichment facility.”

Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz are nothing but “civilian infrastructure”?
