“The firebombing of a Montreal synagogue and a Jewish community organization during the night of Nov. 6 is a violent act of Jew-hatred which must be condemned and protested by the unions, civil rights organizations and all supporters of democratic rights,” Steve Penner, organizer of the Communist League in Canada, said in a statement released to the press the day after the arson attack.
Carried out exactly one month since the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre of over 1,400 people in Israel, largely Jews — the deadliest pogrom since the Holocaust — the arsonists attacked the Congregation Beth Tikvah synagogue and nearby Federation CJA office in the Montreal suburb of Dollard-des-Ormaeaux.
Penner called for a public outcry to “demand that the police arrest and charge the perpetrators of this terrorist act.”
