NEW YORK — One hundred and sixty people crowded into a midtown New York hall March 22 to celebrate the life and political contributions of Dave Prince, who was a member and leader of the Socialist Workers Party for 60 years. The featured speaker at the meeting was Jack Barnes, the national secretary of the SWP, speaking above, who worked in close collaboration with Prince for decades. On either side are the meeting’s chairs, Socialist Workers Party leaders Mary-Alice Waters and Paul Mailhot.
As an attractive display at the meeting noted, in everything Prince did over these decades — in unions and other mass work; forums and classes; circulating and writing for the Militant; leading party finances — he led a life dedicated to forging revolutionary working-class parties able to lead millions in the U.S. and the world over to fight for workers power, uproot capitalist exploitation, end all national oppression and build a socialist world.
For Prince, Marxism’s living revolutionary continuity was the guide to a lifetime.
