PHILADELPHIA — Some 160 workers, members of UNITE HERE Local 274, struck the Sheraton Hotel, the largest in Philadelphia, June 21. A four-day walkout last October ended without a new contract. The workers are seeking wages of $30 per hour, better healthcare and pensions and lower housekeeping room quotas. They were joined on the picket line by members of the Association of Flight Attendants, who often stay at the hotel, including their union’s vice president, Keturah Johnson. “We don’t cross picket lines,” she said, “We join them.”
