ATLANTA — Nearly 100 workers who operate and maintain the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s Plane Train voted 56-24 to go union. The International Association of Machinists Rail Division and Transportation Communications Union/IAM announced the election results Aug. 20.
The Plane Train is managed by Atlanta airport officials, but the workers are employed by French rail manufacturer Alstom, which operates and builds the cars. The Plane Train carries about 250,000 passengers daily between terminals at the world’s busiest airport.
“We look forward to negotiating a strong first agreement that secures the wages, benefits and protections they deserve,” TCU/IAM President Artie Maratea told the press.
