In the biggest military attack against Iraq in six months, 50 U.S. and British warplanes unleashed a bombing assault in southern Iraq on Aug. 10. Three days earlier the Pentagon had dropped bombs in the northern part of the country.
After the 1990-91 U.S.-led Gulf War, in which Washington slaughtered at least 150,000 Iraqis, the U.S. government imposed “no-fly zones” in northern Iraq in mid-1991 and in the south in August 1992, covering the majority of the nation’s territory and violating its national sovereignty.
Since then the U.S. rulers have conducted a steady and at times massive bombardment of areas in these zones, Since the beginning of this year U.S. and British warplanes have conducted 29 days of airstrikes against Iraq. These airstrikes have become a permanent feature of Washington’s ongoing military intervention in the Mideast.

Four years after the Watergate break-in the summer of 1972; three years after the SWP filed a lawsuit against government harassment; and two years after Gerald Ford declared an end to the “nightmare of Watergate,” it has now come out that an FBI informer burglarized the SWP’s Denver headquarters in the summer of 1976.
What’s more, FBI Director Clarence Kelly proclaims that he cannot say “categorically” or “unquestionably” that such burglaries are not continuing.
The FBI has admitted that it has not discovered even one case of illegal activity by the SWP in nearly forty years.
The SWP has refused to buckle to these attempts at thought control. Its campaign against government harassment has exposed criminal FBI activities to millions of people, and provided a powerful impetus to the fight for democratic rights.

We urge ALL our readers to follow these election campaigns, assimilate their lessons and in this way prepare the ground in their own areas for similar election activities.
There is nothing routine about the campaigns of the Socialist Workers Party candidates. They are the unwavering partisans of the toiling people; of the underpaid and the overworked, of all oppressed national and racial minorities, of all the disinherited and the downtrodden.
They are the only genuine independent candidates opposing the nominees of the Democratic and Republican parties, who are not two different parties at all, but simply two rival but loyal agencies of Big Business, the billionaire enemies of mankind.
