Celebrate life of Helen Nelson
On Sept. 13 some 30 people attended a celebration of the life of Helen Nelson organized by her companion, Jude Keast, and other family members and friends. Helen died in August after a long illness.
For almost 20 years she was a member of the Revolutionary Marxist Group and then the Revolutionary Workers League, predecessors of the Communist League in Canada. Helen was a lifelong fighter for women’s rights, including in struggles to break down barriers to women being hired in industrial jobs from which they had been excluded.
She remained a supporter of the Communist League and the international communist movement led by the Socialist Workers Party in the U.S. and contributed financially until her death.
