The fight against Jew-hatred is a decisive question for workers worldwide. Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, pogrom in Israel opened a renewed drive to exterminate Jews by forces on both the left and right of bourgeois politics — as was graphically shown in the deadly attack on Bondi Beach. Hamas issued a statement Dec. 24 glorifying Oct. 7 as a pivotal moment in its ongoing fight to destroy Israel.
The “ceasefire” imposed by President Donald Trump has given Hamas time and space to rearm and strengthen ties with allies worldwide. Its reactionary backers in Tehran are rebuilding their missile systems and looking to restart work toward nuclear weapons.
Hamas’ continued existence makes more pogroms in Israel inevitable. It must be defeated and dismantled. Israel, the one state that unconditionally offers Jews a refuge, is the only force capable of doing that. It deserves the support of workers everywhere.
Washington has only one aim in the Middle East — to enforce stability for the expansion of the U.S. rulers’ profit-driven interests. It has no interest in the protection of Jews.
Israel’s defeat of Hamas would remove a huge obstacle to the development of common struggles by workers of all nationalities in the Middle East — Palestinians, Jews and others.
Working people in Iran, who have taken to the streets in recent days, are a key ally in the fight to defeat Hamas. Their confidence to combat the cleric-led capitalist government has grown in the wake of Israel’s steps against the Iranian rulers’ moves to develop deadly missiles and nuclear weapons. A majority of Iranian toilers loathe Tehran’s murderous use of its proxies in the region and its calls for “Death to Israel.”
The worldwide crisis of imperialism is accelerating. Washington has imposed a blockade against Venezuela and tightened its economic war on Cuba. Moscow’s bombardment of civilians in Ukraine has escalated. Military threats and conflicts are spreading in Africa, Southeast Asia and beyond.
Jew-hatred is not just a Mideast question. It is a key weapon for capitalist rulers everywhere in the imperialist epoch, to be deployed as the crisis of their system deepens. It is a crucial tool on their march toward fascism and a third world war. The road to preventing that unthinkable prospect lies in building proletarian parties in the U.S. and worldwide to lead working people to overturn capitalist rule and take power.
