President Donald Trump has established what he calls a “Board of Peace” initially aimed at the Middle East, a region that is crucial for the U.S. imperialist rulers’ interests. He is now seeking to extend its authority over bloody conflicts elsewhere in the world where the U.S. rulers seek to make gains at the expense of their rivals.
One key aim of Trump’s Board is to block Israel from decisively defeating Hamas. The Tehran-backed group is several months into re-arming and rebuilding since Israel dealt it heavy blows. It’s reasserting its hated dictatorial rule over Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel, the one country that offers Jews an unconditional refuge, is the only force that today will fight and defeat Hamas. Anything short of that will inevitably lead to more and more deadly pogroms.
Washington also aims to use this body to advance its influence with Arab and other governments, including Tehran and Ankara, across the Middle East.
First and foremost, the U.S. rulers seek to advance their own imperialist interests amid the accelerating conflicts among capitalist ruling classes that are inevitably leading to a new world war. This time between a growing number of rivals armed with nuclear weapons. The U.S. rulers are determined to reestablish their place as the dominant world power, especially against their chief rival in Beijing. Donald Trump’s tariffs are aimed at rebuilding U.S. industrial capacity, essential for war production in preparation for the wars to come. As is his push for Greenland.
Trump says his Board “might” replace the UN, further sidelining Washington’s rivals and aiding its drive to reverse its declining place at the head of the conflict-ridden imperialist world order.
Like the misnamed “United Nations,” the “Board of Peace” masks the reality of the imperialist epoch. It’s an epoch driven by more and more violent conflicts among rival capitalist classes for markets, resources and labor to exploit. It’s marked by Jew-hating violence, which the bosses will unleash in full force as a weapon against rising working-class battles for power.
None of this can be prevented by the Trump administration, some supra-national ‘Board’ or so-called ‘international law’ or anything else under capitalist rule.
The deep-going desire of working people for peace can only be realized by the working class taking political power into our own hands. To make that possible, workers need our own party, one that is uncompromising in its defense of our class interests against the bosses and the parties that serve them. With a tested leadership, workers are capable of organizing to take power here and join revolutionary struggles around the world.
