MONTREAL — Actions in solidarity with the Cuban Revolution protesting Washington’s monthslong criminal oil blockade and decades of economic war on the people of Cuba were held in cities across Canada April 19. The day of protest was called jointly by the Canadian Network on Cuba and the Quebec-Cuba Solidarity Roundtable. The actions marked the 65th anniversary of the Cuban victory at the Bay of Pigs, which stopped cold some 1,500 U.S.-funded, organized and trained mercenaries and their attempted invasion. Their goal was to overthrow the revolutionary government led by Fidel Castro. The events drew 50 spirited protesters in Montreal, above, 100 in Toronto and 40 in Vancouver.
