With $111,741 collected toward the annual Militant Fighting Fund, supporters of the fund are stepping up efforts to take the $165,000 goal over the top in the remaining two weeks of the campaign.

The Militant  accepts no paid advertising and is financed solely by working people. Contributions come from workers attracted to the paper’s intransigent defense of the interests of working people worldwide against the bosses, their parties and governments.

SWP campaigners in Seattle met a carpenter who got a year’s subscription to the Militant  and two books when they knocked on his door in early April. Rebecca Williamson reports he paid with a $100 bill. When campaigners explained that the paper is funded by contributions from its readers, he said to keep the rest as a donation.

Dennis Richter reports from Dallas-Fort Worth that SWP members there received $37 in donations to the fund from two workers they met at an apartment complex in Grand Prairie in mid-April. So far, some $80 has come in from contributions by working people in the area that SWP members met as they introduced the party and its program to workers on their doorsteps.

“We got a total of $111 at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in donations for the Militant Fighting Fund,” reports Bernie Senter. “One person came by the table and pulled out $20 and put it in the can. I said that he should look around and select a book he might be interested in. He came back with  a couple of books and I said we could apply the $20 toward the books. He said, ‘No, that was for the cause,’ as he paid for the books.”
