A classified Pentagon strategy document elevates “homeland defense” into one of the four pillars of U.S. imperialist military doctrine and gives the military domestic duties in battling terrorism.
The rulers know they must confront working people who are resisting and who will ultimately fight for power as the ravages of the world capitalist economic crisis and the brutalities of the old social order take an increasing toll, both in other countries and in the United States.
In Cuba and the Coming American Revolution, SWP National Secretary Jack Barnes explains that the rulers “know they will face more and bigger battles as international capitalist competition drives them to slash wages, extend the workday, intensify speedup, cut social security protections and crush the unions. And they are preparing to defend their class interests.”

In forty-five minutes of questioning on July 14, FBI agent Joseph Furrer cited his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination some eighty times — about once every thirty seconds.
Furrer was responding to Federal Judge Thomas Griesa’s order to testify under oath in the Socialist Workers Party lawsuit against government harassment.
His refusal a week earlier to answer questions as basic as whether he worked for the FBI made him the first agent in history to take the Fifth Amendment.
The socialists wanted to question Furrer because — according to the U.S. attorneys handling the government’s case — he is in charge of New York’s FBI operations against the SWP, and has been since 1971.
Another hearing on Furrer’s response to questioning is scheduled for July 23.

How can the war in Asia be brought to a permanent close? Only by the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Korea and from all of Asia. The Asian people have expressed a universal determination to clean out the gangs that have ridden their backs for so long. They have expressed that determination with arms in hand and with their lives staked upon the outcome.
They will never make peace with foreign imperialism. In their places, we would act the same way, and did act that way in 1776. If their leaders betray them to foreign imperialism, they will dump these leaders and get others.
The American people have made it clear, what kind of a foreign policy they want — the troops withdrawn from Korea and fair recognition of the existing governments in Asia, including the New China. Short of this foreign policy, we do not have any chance for peace.
