LONDON — The Communist League is standing party leader Jonathan Silberman in the Holborn and St. Pancras by-election here, to present a working-class road forward in the face of the sharpening attacks by the ruling class in Britain against workers at home and abroad. Silberman will be on the ballot.
The Oct. 8 election was triggered when Labour Member of Parliament Keir Starmer resigned from the legislature after being ousted as prime minister. The election is widely presented as the first test of Labour Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s new government. The Green Party is standing its leader, Zack Polanski, to challenge Labour’s decades-long dominance in the constituency.
Silberman, above, campaigning in London in June, has a long record building solidarity with union battles for jobs, wages and working conditions, as well as organizing actions to defend Cuba’s socialist revolution, opposing the growing assaults on Jews and fighting for the rights of immigrant workers.
“Imperialism’s march to another world war and the rulers’ mounting assault on our livelihoods is the reality facing working people today,” Silberman said. “None of the capitalist parties — Labour, Conservatives, the Greens or Reform — have any solution to that. This crisis can be ended only by building a revolutionary working-class party to lead millions in the fight for workers power.”
