PITTSBURGH — Tony Lane, Socialist Workers Party candidate for lieutenant governor in Pennsylvania, speaking, and Sergio Zambrana, SWP candidate for Congress in the 12th District, formally kicked off their campaigns here March 7, at a meeting in the party’s new campaign headquarters. The two candidates recently joined a rally of several hundred people in defense of Ukraine’s sovereignty against Moscow’s more than four-year-long invasion; helped organize a picket line calling for “Hands off Cuba!” at the Federal Building in downtown Pittsburgh; and distributed and discussed the recently issued SWP statement “US out of the Middle East!” at campus campaign tables and on doorsteps in working-class neighborhoods.
“Working people in the United States, the Middle East, and the world over must oppose Washington’s large-scale air and naval assault, begun Feb. 28, on the national sovereignty of Iran and the many peoples who make up its population,” the statement says. “It is a blow to the aspirations for peace held by workers and millions of other oppressed and exploited people in the United States.”
With a big boost from a number of supporters, they helped move the campaign into a brand new, more spacious headquarters for the campaign kickoff.
